Landforms
The Akimiski Island is located in the Hudson Bay Lowlands. The land is relatively flat with swampy forests. The Akimiski Island is part of the largest wetlands in Canada. The land was once covered with thick ice sheets that compressed the ground and lowered the ground elevation making it flat. The poor drainage here encourages the wetlands and bogs.
